Chartered Institute of Marketing Ghana

FROM VISION TO ACTION: REPOSITIONING CIMG FOR IMPACT

On April 1, 2025, I had the privilege of assuming office as National President and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Chartered Institute of Marketing, Ghana (CIMG). Elected by the Institute’s distinguished membership, this role is not just a position of leadership; it is a mandate to elevate our profession and ignite a renewed vision for marketing in Ghana.

As I take on this mantle, I do so with a deep sense of purpose and clarity. The future of marketing in Ghana is not something to be left to chance or tradition. It must be shaped with intent, built on strategy, and fueled by innovation. This is the time for reinvention.

I am proud to lead a team of forward-thinking professionals whose credentials, values, and vision align with the bold direction we have set for CIMG. Supporting this journey are Ms. Ama G. Amoah, Vice President; Mr. Edwin Letsa K. Kpedor, National Secretary; and Dr. Dr. Francis Mensah Sasraku, Treasurer. We are further strengthened by the insights and experience of our Governing Council members: Dr. Daniel Kasser Tee (Immediate Past President), Mrs. Hilda Peasah, Mrs. Norrender Wordie Debrah, Mr. Kwasi Kyere, Mrs. Stella Akosua Ansah, Mr. Mawuli Segbefia, and Mr. Kwabena Agyekum.

Together, we are here to steer the Institute into its next chapter: one defined by relevance, resilience, and recognition. We are reimagining what it means to be a marketing professional in Ghana today and what it must mean tomorrow. We are ensuring that CIMG not only reflects the needs of its members but also anticipates them. It is becoming an engine of thought leadership, professional development, ethical practice, and institutional influence across the public and private sectors.

As we set this stage, we must ask: What kind of professional body do we want to become? What legacy do we want to leave? And how will we ensure that marketing earns its rightful place at the center of national development?

During the campaign, I introduced “Agenda 5 over 5”, a bold commitment built around five strategic priorities and key enablers to transform CIMG and advance our profession. But leadership demands more than promises. Once elected, it became clear that our approach had to evolve. Through stakeholder engagement, member feedback, and a deeper understanding of the Institute’s current realities, we recognized the need for a broader, more ambitious framework. What began as five (5) themes has now grown into eight (8) strategic initiatives, a comprehensive agenda designed to match the scale of our vision and the urgency of the moment.

Our strategic focus now rests on these eight (8) key initiatives:

1. Membership and Community Engagement: Grow and strengthen the CIMG membership base through inclusive engagement, welfare programmes, and member-driven activities.

2. Education and Professional Development: Enhance marketing education, student engagement, and continuous professional development through strategic partnerships and innovative learning pathways.

3. Ethics and Professional Standards: Uphold ethical conduct, ensure regulatory compliance, and maintain discipline within the profession.

4. Financial Sustainability and Institutional Strengthening: Oversee financial planning, resource mobilization, procurement, and organizational development to ensure sustainability and accountability.

5. Awards, Conferences, and Events: Lead the planning, execution, and innovation of CIMG’s flagship events, awards, and professional gatherings.

6. Research and Development: Generate actionable insights, publish industry reports, and lead consumer advocacy through structured research initiatives.

7. Advocacy and Stakeholder Engagement: Strengthen relationships with key stakeholders across government, industry, academia, media, and international partners to advance the marketing profession.

8. Ghana School of Marketing: Operate as a centre of excellence for marketing education, applied research, and industry-relevant training.

Together, these eight (8) initiatives form a cohesive three-year transformation agenda. A deliberate roadmap to reposition CIMG as one of Ghana’s most effective and future-ready professional bodies.

As we pursue this bold future, I must pause to thank every marketer who believed in this vision, especially those who voted in the last election. Your trust is not taken lightly. But now, the real work begins.

We need every marketer in Ghana; whether you are in account management, advertising, brands management, channel development, customer relationship management, digital marketing, e-commerce, event management, market research, or public relations, CIMG is your professional home. This is your network. This is your platform. This is your moment to connect, contribute, and help shape the future of our profession. We are rebuilding CIMG for all of us, and we cannot do it without you.

A defining milestone in our journey is the enactment of the CIMG Act 2020 (Act 1021). This legislation formally mandates the Institute to regulate marketing practice and professional training in Ghana. It affirms CIMG’s authority, not just to lead, but to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, ethics, and excellence. Through this Act, our role is not only recognised by law but also respected as a custodian of marketing integrity in the country.

Building on the mandate of the Act, we are accelerating efforts to formalize professional certification across the industry. For marketing practitioners who have not yet secured certification, now is the time to act. Becoming certified not only affirms your professional credibility but also aligns you with global standards and opens new doors for career growth, recognition, and leadership.

Our members are the heartbeat of CIMG, and together, we form an inclusive, forward-thinking community built on shared knowledge and a collective desire to make a meaningful impact. Through CIMG, you gain access to an extensive network of industry leaders, thought influencers, and professionals who are shaping the future of marketing.

The next three (3) years represent a defining window of growth and  transformation, but the success of this vision will not rest on leadership  alone; it will require the active commitment of every marketer in Ghana. This  is our shared moment to step forward, engage fully with the Institute, and  help shape the future of our profession. Together, we will redefine what it  means to be a marketing professional in Ghana and elevate it to new heights.
